XBRL for was announced with great promise. These computer-readable tags, in eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL), would allow companies to label precisely thousands of numbers from their financial statements. Then investors, analysts, journalists, SEC staff and others could easily search, access and analyze the data.

I am a new fan of The Voice. I love the premise that first a singer has to impress the judges with voice only. Only when the judges have screened the singer by voice, do other criteria come into play for an overall assessment. What is the singer’s repertoire, style, future promise?

What’s worse than an IR presentation that goes on forever with repetitive examples that repeat, again, again and again, continues to go on forever and never connects the dots? A presentation void of examples that makes no effort to connect to the audience. Whether you’re a consumer, technology, energy, biotech or other industry company, make sure to use plenty of examples that your audience can relate to.

It turns out you can be too green. Maybe not if you’re Kermit the Frog, but yes if you decide to give an IR presentation without any hand-outs. The hand-out does not need to be a folder filled with glossy brochures, Annuals and/or SEC filings. Rather, a single page Fact Sheet or copy of the slides will ensure the presentation has legs beyond the meeting itself.
